After a successful campaign attracting over 2,000 petition signatures, several parliamentary speeches, and my meetings with the Department of Main Roads, I am pleased to report that the state government has agreed to address the ever increasing traffic congestion at the intersection of Woodlands Boulevard and Kawana Way Link Road.
Originally not included in the announcement of Kawana Way roundabout upgrades, design layouts for capacity improvements at Kawana Way Link Road from just south of Woodlands Boulevard to Creekside Boulevard/Kawana Way intersection have now been released.
Whilst these improvements will go some way to addressing congestion for Kawana Forest residents, I remain concerned about access and road infrastructure around the hospital precinct. Particularly, with the projected increase of traffic volume on sections of Kawana Way of between 45%-70% once the hospital opens.
Despite this, I congratulate the community who have joined me to champion the cause for these important improvements at the Woodlands Boulevard and Kawana Way intersections. It’s a real win for our community and residents living in Kawana Forest!
Construction will begin mid-October 2016. Improvements include an extended turning lane into Woodlands Boulevard, additional lanes in both directions from just south of Woodlands Boulevard through to Kawana Way, additional left turn lane to Kawana Way, two dedicated right turn lanes into Kawana Way Link Road, along with additional pedestrian paths.
Electronic message boards will be in place in the coming weeks to provide motorists with advance notice of the roadworks. These roadworks are expected to continue until mid2017, weather and construction conditions permitting.
If you would like to receive a copy of the Transport and Main Roads design layout, please contact my office on (07) 5406 3100 or email kawana@parliament.qld.gov.au.
Once again, a big congratulations to everyone who was part of this successful campaign.
